Early detection is always the best scenario...right?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050506/ap_on_he_me/autism_study

It makes sense that the earlier a child is diagnosed the better his/her chances are for benefitting from therapy. Just like with anything else, if you can shape the mind before it's influenced by negative factors then you have a better chance of getting it to do what you want. Take for instance patterns of behavior. If you get a child used to positive behavior before he/she is subjected to negative behavior at school or play then he/she will already know what's right and what's wrong so that he/she will be better equipped to make the right decisions. That's it for now. I'm too tired and my brain won't allow me to get too deep in to this subject.

Hi, I just found your blog, it is pretty good. I know a little of what Ally has told me and what I go through on a daily basis with my son, Chandler. It is a struggle, sometimes a battle, but always worth it. I like the site and I like the idea of getting the word out. It sounds like Mikey has you wrapped, and that you care for him dearly! And that is all that matters.

I know our son was detected at 27 months old and the outside therapies and preschool setting does seem to help him, since Jan 04 when we found out he has made huge progress! I know Autism is so hard because the spectrum varies and each of our little ones are sooo different! I started a blog as well on how Autism is affecting us.....take care~

Unfortunately, you need to sign up for word verification. That's the only way to get rid of all the crap.

If you've met one kid with autism, you've met one kid with autism.

Please feel free to cross-post over at OurSpectrum.com, it's a Scoop blog so anyone can post stories (frontpage) or diaries (shorter news items like this one).

Hi, I have just joined your blog, and I find it very touching. I agree with what you said, if a child understands what is right and what is wrong when they are little then it is easier to teach them the basics of life as they grow. I find it a struggle to try to explain what is right from wrong and why it is so to the little boy I babysit who has autism. Even though it is a huge struggle to try to explain it to him I find it worth it in the end.

Just wanted to say hi. They do say early detection makes a difference. I also wanted to bring up biochemical therapy to your notice. Ever heard of it, or thought about trying that? No one is ever too old to benefit. I've seen great results with my son. We've only been doing it since June.

I agree that early detection is a very good thing to do.
